Misc August

August 1 we had a sister/mom party and watched little women downstairs. I made a yummy salad thing with sweet potato falafels that was amazing. We played a little bit and then watched the movie and it was tons of fun!

This girl.
My friend Laura tended my kids one day (many days) and she sent me this from their partying.

For Brooke's birthday Jan and I met her up Mueller Park and had a pot luck of the most delightful things. It was so fun to hang out in our favorite arena and eat and talk. A perfect combo of favorite things.
Park day and walk at the duck park with Laura C and kids.

Heather had a goal this year to learn how to make macarons and I've been wanting to learn to make them too etc etc and so we had a macaron night. And it was soooo fun. She is amazing and has made tons since and this is the only batch I've made but I want to make more and do more with her and then sell them. I think it would be awesome. They were lemon ones with a mascarpone filling and they were SOOOO good! I LOVE macs!

The next day we went to the Farmington pool for a couple of hours with Laura C and her kids. It was super fun except for Lottie pooped her pants and a big turd landed on the bathroom floor when I was trying to get her taken care of and it was a big stinky soppy smelly mess. UGH. This girl...with a whole different tone than the this girl from above.

Then that afternoon we went to Clara's birthday party. And Laura's sister in law made this adorable cake.

I actually think this was closer to the beginning of the month, like the first night of them in their new beds. Greta had a nice set up of all her stuffies.

This picture makes me want to cry. A few weeks before this Bogey started getting some sores on his face and it was the weekend so we took him to the ER....well, Tanner did because I had to work and it was a huge long wait and awful but he got diagnosed with puppy strangle. Some weird autoimmune thing. He got steroids and antibiotics and pain meds. He was on those a couple of weeks and we thought he was maybe getting better but then one Sunday at my parents he scratched his face and yelped and caused this huge sore to bleed and I realized that he still had really bad sores that were just hidden in his hair. It was awful. So we left early and took him back to the ER (it was a Sunday evening) and it was just the worst day. We waited in the car forever and then I left kids in the car when I went to work and Tanner stayed in the car even longer thinking they were almost done...it was like a total of 8 hours we waited collectively and then they ended up going home anyway and I grabbed him on my way home. It was soooo stupid and frustrating and stressful and awful. It was not a good day for me. More steroids on a higher dose and longer taper, more pain meds and more antibiotics. And a bigger cone that he couldn't scratch around.

It's the absolute best when they love each other.

We were going to miss back to school night because I had to work so we made an appointment and met his teacher the Monday day before school started (the 17th...school started the 19th). Harvey was so excited, especially about the lockers. And his teacher, Ms. Chini is awesome. I love her.

Last night of summer treat!

1st Grade!!! I can't believe it. He was so excited all the way leading up to it. He said he was 100% excited and 1% nervous. But the day we started going he was saying he was getting more nervous the closer we got. But he did awesome and had a great day. I had been SO worried about if he should go, if all the masks and rules and social distancing would be a stress for him or cause anxiety. I asked him a few weeks before school what he thought after I told him how it was going to look. He said he wanted to go. I told him he could change his mind later if it was hard or whatever and we could do it at home. He said that even if it got a little hard he thought he'd still just go. I laughed and said "you really don't want me to be your teacher, huh". He chuckled kind of shyly like he'd been caught and also might have felt bad he actually thought that, and shook his head. I reassured him that I didn't want to be his teacher either. Ha. So that was that. All my stress and worry gone and him just loving school so far!
And celebratory shaved ice after surviving the first day (they only went till 1pm the first week and a half...so it was a good break in).

The kids have gone through many rituals surrounding me leaving for work. For awhile it was waving from the back door, sometimes just a 10 second hug and a "love and a kiss and an eskimo" etc. This one is one of may favorites. Standing together outside and running to the edge of the house to watch me drive away. "Wave the whole time, check on me 5 times, I'll miss you, don't forget" etc etc. I love my job and love those little nuggets It's always a challenging balance.

One evening sister Laura and I decided to do a swim party. We were going to go to the zoo but then the weather looked like it was going to be hot and miserable so we decided to get a cherry hill day in. Then it rained in the afternoon. Haha. But it turned out perfect by the time we got there. The kids had A BLAST and so did we. They were all very independent in the lazy river. And Harvey and I did cardiac canyon a couple times and he went once by himself. So glad we did this. It made me think we might actually be able to do a season pass next year. We'll see...

Soccer season!!! We missed all of Spring cause of Covid. And he missed a couple of games last year. So we are hoping for a full season this year! Especially since he actually has a pretty good team and I like the coach! They won their first game and Harvey played HARD and scored 1 goal. It was fun to watch.

Dying.

Greta finally gets to do her upstart. She's been dying to have her turn for a couple of years now!
And Lottie's first time going to the dentist. Her little face in this picture is about the cutest thing I've ever seen.

And she wasn't too sure about things when they lowered the chair down. She was grabbing onto the hygienist and white knuckling the chair. But she was seriously so brave. Didn't cry at all and she was nervous and doesn't like me messing with her mouth so I was impressed.

Just being cute while we (Laura and I) hang at the park while Greta and Lucy have dance.

His face looks significantly better now, wouldn't you say? Holy cow. Thank goodness!

And Greta's first day of year 2 of preschool! We were going to go to Tiffiny's Flower Box like Harvey...and part of me wishes we got to do the same thing...but with Covid and everything, I felt like Miss Sharon's would feel the most normal. And she wanted to go there again. And it's close and convenient and her friends from last year are there and Lucy is going there too, so it's perfect (and much cheaper :) ) And she's about the most beautiful little thing ever. Love her.
